Cause of Death: Bank Fees!
Is your bank slowly 'killing' you with an endless onslaught of bank fees?
I know mine is!
Every friggin month I get whacked with fees for this, that and the other goddamn thing - it's just ridiculous!
Here's what happened to me the other day…
I have accounts with two different banks - one for business and the other an every day checking account. I have an approved overdraft limit on my checking account, but no overdraft applies to my business account.
Unfortunately - re my checking account - I went $3.15 (that's "three-dollars-and-fifteen-cents") over my prescribed overdraft limit one day last week. Now bear in mind that I have a large 4-figure overdraft limit that seldom gets maxed out.
Well, guess what my so-called "customer-focused" bank did to me?……
They bounced the $200 check I had sent to World vision as a charitable donation! Why? because I would've been $3.15 over my overdraft limit if they had've cleared the check!
What were they thinking???
Geeez, I turn over "thousands of dollars a month" in that account… and it's not even my business account. If they had've let my check go through, not only would've World Vision benefited, but the earth-shattering $3.15 breach of my overdraft limit would've been rectified 24 hours later anyway (I made a $3,600 deposit the next day!).
I got zapped for $25! That's the fee this bank charges for a bounced check. Yet, as an ex-banker myself, I know for a fact that the bank incurs ZERO COST when processing a bounced check - all communications are electronic these days!
But here's the great irony…
My other bank account also found itself $48.77 overdrawn on the 28th February… because they DID have the foresight to clear a bunch of checks that weren't quite fully covered (i.e. slight shortfall in cash in my account at the time). They notifed me by mail to let me know that my account was in arrears and advised me to rectify it promptly… which of course I did immediately.
Did I also have to pay a fee to this other bank?
Youbetcha!!!
I was hit up for $15. But at least they did the right thing by honoring the offending check. I have been with that particular bank since 1999 and they know I usually manage my account perfectly.
"How long had I been with the bank that has my checking account and bounced a check rather than let me go $3.15 over my overdraft limit", I hear you ask.?
Oh, lets see…… about 22 years!
So much for customer loyalty!
The moral of the story is:
Banks HAVE no morals!
What do YOU think? Has this ever happened to you?
